On Wednesday 2nd November, the Growth Hub held a free workshop event for businesses new to or just beginning to export. Fifty delegates filled the room and heard from speakers including the Herts Chamber of Commerce and the Department for International Trade about exporting as a boost for business growth, and how to avoid pitfalls such as unexpected costs and problems with getting payment. Another speaker explained how having a subsidiary office overseas can make a substantial difference to a valuation of your business – important both for growth and sale of any business.
The room was full of business owners who were actively seeking to grow; a mix of product and service-based businesses found from all over the county networked with each other over coffee breaks and lunch, questioned the experts and made new contacts to help them grow their exports. Everyone was engaged and the buzz in the room and in the breaks was terrific.
Comments from the delegates included “Very good event and far exceeded my expectations,” “it has opened my eyes to look at e-commerce exporting as a way of expanding my business” and “fantastic event, learnt a lot and met some very interesting people”. One last line from a delegate really summed the Growth Hub team’s goals for this event: “it is helpful and inspiring to hear from experts how the journey to success is achievable”.
