Two Hertfordshire Businesses Receive Herts Responsible Food Awards

Hertfordshire County Council

Hertfordshire County Council in partnership with Broxbourne Borough Council are delighted to have awarded two new businesses with Herts Responsible Food Awards, certifying their commitment to healthier eating and sustainability.

High Leigh Conference Centre in Hoddesdon was the first business to receive a Gold food award for their efforts to improve the health impact of their food offering through actions which included removing all deep fat fryers from the site. High leigh also champion sustainability and have made significant changes to continue to reduce the impact the conference centre has on the environment.

The Restaurant at Farnham House, operated by HCL, soon followed by achieving a Silver Herts Responsible Food Award. HCL promote sustainability and have worked to reduce energy usage, ensure waste is managed sustainably and responsibly procure ingredients and cleaning products.

They additionally made some significant changes to the food and drink offer including ensuring that 90% of their cold beverage range is now either low in or free from sugar and swapping their mayonnaise to a lighter version.

HCL now plan to work with the Herts Responsible Food Team to go further and push towards the Gold Herts Responsible Food Award.

Toni Bevilacqua from HCL said the following about the food award: “HCL look forward to working alongside the Herts Responsible Food Team to provide our customers with tasty and delicious products with a healthy and sustainable mindset at our core. Creating a food culture that encourages healthier eating for your wellbeing and importantly has a positive impact on our environment.”
