The challenge

Avanza Pharma Ltd is a growing business supplying speciality, unlicensed pharmaceuticals – well-used products which haven’t yet been through the UK licensing process. They wanted to increase sales, as well as establishing their own portfolio of products by developing, licensing and marketing 15 of these niche drugs. To make it happen, they needed funding, marketing, technical expertise, and business model development support.

The solution

The company contacted Hertfordshire Growth Hub in July 2015, and have been working with innovation and technology specialist Abrar Jawaid and sales and marketing specialist Chris Ellis.

Together, Abrar and Chris have helped Avanza shape up their business model and strategy, as well as explore and prepare for funding opportunities. They’ve also helped them build important new relationships with experts at the University of Hertfordshire, who are helping with small-scale R&D manufacturing and targeted marketing of their key customers.

The impact

Since Avanza started working with the Growth Hub they have:

• More effectively targeted their marketing activities
• Gained more exposure with target pharmacy clients
• Started to see clear sales growth
• Developed a stronger business model and strategy
• Used these tools to approach potential funders
• Begun to plan for small-scale R&D manufacturing.
